STORM WATCH - Tropical Storm Nicholas

Tropical Storm Nicholas Update - 9/12/2021 at 6:30 p.m.

City of Portland officials are engaged in phone calls with the National Weather Service (NWS) and National Hurricane Center as Tropical Storm Nicholas moves closer to the Texas coast. Heavy rains are expected to early tomorrow morning and last through the week. If you live in a low-lying area, please take precautions. Tropical Storm Nicholas could produce high winds in Portland. Please take time today to secure any loose outdoor fixtures or loose debris.

The NWS expects the heavy rain to be the biggest hazard in our area since it may cause flash flooding. We will provide an update tomorrow afternoon.

Please note : The City of Portland plans to open facilities tomorrow, as normal. Additionally, Republic Services plans to collect scheduled trash, recycling and bulk tomorrow. If this changes, we will include it in tomorrow afternoon’s update.
