Fireworks

It is illegal to sell, possess or discharge fireworks within the city limits of Portland, Texas and up to 5,000 feet outside the city. Persons possessing, discharging or selling fireworks are subject to a fine of up to $200 for each item or separate package they possess. Police and fire officials will practice zero tolerance in the enforcement of this ordinance.

Ordinance Information

  • The city can prohibit sale, possession and discharge anywhere within the city limits and up to 5,000 feet outside the city limits
  • A parent can be fined for allowing their child, under the age of 14, to use, discharge, ignite or otherwise set off any fireworks
  • With proper insurances and a permit issued by the city, certain persons / groups may be allowed to put on a fireworks display
  • You can be fined up to $200 for each firecracker, rocket or package of fireworks in your possession
