1. Who picks up our garbage and recycling?

Republic Services, through a contract with the City of Portland, picks up residential and small business garbage once each week. Recycling is picked up on your regular garbage day once every two weeks. Bulk pickup is done once per month and yard waste is picked up quarterly. 2. When are the garbage collection days?

The garbage collection days are based on your address. Republic Services provides street-side or curbside residential collection service once a week, recycling pick up once every two weeks. Collection of houshold (non-yard waste) bulk waste is once per month, and yard waste is once per quarter.  Please visit PortlandTx.gov/WasteSchedules to find your schedules and information regarding the type and amount of materials that may be disposed of.  

3. What items will NOT be picked up?

Tires, batteries, paint cans or any household hazardous waste will not be picked up. Hazardous waste includes any chemical, compound, mixture, substance or article which is designated by the United States Environmental Protection Agency or appropriate agency of the state to be a hazardous as that term is defined by or pursuant to federal or state law.

4. Who picks up bulky items?

Republic Services picks up bulky items, as part of their regular scheduled trash/brush schedule. Bulky waste includes stoves, water tanks, washing machines, furniture, and other items too large or too heavy to fit in the 92-gallon containers. Appliances containing freon such as refrigerators and air conditioners will not be picked up. 5. How can I get a new recycle cart?
