UPDATE ON WATER SYSTEM

The City of Portland will turn off water in the city at 10:30 p.m. tonight and resume water service at 5:00 a.m. tomorrow.  This is necessary to replenish storage tanks and reduce the chance that water will have to be turned off during the day.

According to Portland City Manager Randy Wright, utility crews today isolated over thirty high-volume leaks due to frozen pipes, mostly at residences, and have at least that many to complete on Thursday.  “We want to provide our citizens with water throughout the day and make up those losses over night until we get the leaks under control. Hopefully, we can address all the leaks on Thursday and avoid any further shut-offs.”

Citizens can expect water pressure to build beginning at 5:00 a.m. with full pressure by 5:30 a.m.

Portland remains under a water boil notice. Visit http://portlandtx.com/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=343 for more information on the water boil. Citizens are urged to report water leaks to the city at (361) 777-4444.
