Homepage Highlight Pooch a palooza

Tis' the Season...and we don't want you to miss any of it! Here's the lineup for holiday-related City events:

Tour of Lights 
Tuesday, Dec. 11 & Wednesday, Dec. 12 at 6:00 p.m.
Portland seniors can check out the holiday lights during the Tour of Lights, being offered starting at 6:00 p.m. on consecutive nights— Tuesday, Dec. 11 and Wednesday, Dec. 12. Transportation is provided and departs from the Portland Senior Center, located at 601 Wildcat Drive. For details, call 361.643.9431. 

Christmas Cookie Swap
Wednesday, Dec. 12, 6:00 - 7:30 p.m.
Everyone is invited to the Bell/Whittington Library’s Annual Cookie Swap. There will be coffee and hot chocolate, and an opportunity to meet others with the same need for sweets.
     Guidelines for the Cookie Exchange:

     1. All cookies should be homemade.
     2. Bring three dozen cookies (1 ½ dozen to swap and 1½ dozen to share). Please bag your cookies-to-swap in groups of three.
     3. Email marisa.rodriguez@portlandtx.com or provide a copy of your recipe at the circulation desk before the party so twe will have copies to share.
     4. To avoid duplicate recipes, register for this event to let us know what type of cookie you plan on bringing.
Registration is required by Monday, December 10. Call 361.777.4560 or e-mail marisa.rodriguez@portlandtx.com. This is a free event open to adults only. 

Pooch-a-Palooza
Thursday, Dec. 13, 4:30-7:00 p.m. 
Calling all Christmas canines! Come to the Kaiah Dog Park and share your Christmas canine wish with Santa! Straight from the North Pole, Santa and his elves will be taking photos with your perky pooch. (Please note that Kaiah Dog Park rules will still be in effect during Pooch-a-Palooza.) Bring a pet donation like a blanket, towel, or toy to participate. All donations will go to Portland Animal Control and Last Chance Rescue. Kaiah Dog Park is located at 1000 Moore Ave. For more information, call 361.777.4670. 

Santa at the Library
Tuesday, Dec. 18, 10:00 a.m.
Celebrate Christmas at the Bell Whittington Library’s holiday party. There will be lots of yuletide fun and a chance to take a selfie with Santa. The Bell/Whittington Library is located at 2400 Memorial Parkway. For details, call 361.777.4560.

Senior Center Christmas Party
Wednesday, Dec. 19, Noon
The Senior Center Christmas Party is planned for Wed., Dec. 19, from noon-2:00 p.m. There will be punch and cookies, music and fun, and lots of door prizes. The Senior Center is located at 601 Wildcat Drive. For details, call 361.643.9431.

Holiday Kidz Dayz
Dec. 21; Dec. 26-28; Jan 2-4; Jan. 7
Kidz Dayz is a full-day program for children ages 5-12, in kindergarten through 6th grade. It’s offered Dec. 21; Dec. 26-28; and Jan. 2-4, and Jan. 7. Parents can register their child for a single day or multiple days. Hours are 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Kidz Dayz will be held at T.M. Clark Elementary, located at 2250 Memorial Parkway. The cost is $20/day per child. Register at the Community Center or online here.

New Year's for Kids
Monday, Dec. 31, 10:00 a.m.
The library will ring in the New Year kid-style on Friday, Monday, Dec. 31, starting at 10 a.m. No registration is required. The Bell Whittington Library is located at 2400 Memorial Parkway. For information on these or any of the programs offered at the library, call 361.777.4560.

Noon Year's Eve Party (seniors)
Monday, Dec. 31, 10:30 a.m.
To close out the year, the annual seniors’ Noon Year’s Eve Party takes place at the Portland Community Center on Monday, Dec. 31, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. For details, call 361.643.9431.
