Portland, Texas…The Portland City Council has appointed Joseph Vasquez to serve on the City Council until the next regular city election. That election is scheduled for Saturday, May 5. Vasquez’s appointment was made in accordance with Section 2.05 of the Portland City Charter. He will serve in the seat vacated by Cathy Skurow in her run for mayor.

Joseph Vasquez was born and raised in South Texas. He is a 2006 graduate of Texas A&M University-Kingsville and has made his career in the financial services field. Having begun his career in various aspects of banking, Vasquez found his passion was helping families and businesses reach their long-term goals. He moved his family to Portland in 2014 and later opened an Edward Jones office in the city. Vasquez currently works as a financial advisor.

He is an active member of the Portland Chamber of Commerce and their Leadership Portland Program, as well as the current president of the Portland Rotary Club. Family values brought Vasquez to Portland, and when he isn't working, he spends time with his wife and children enjoying all that the local community has to offer.
