Join us on Saturday, Oct. 14, for the opening of two new sports venues in Portland.
Sports Complex
721 Buddy Ganem Drive
Time: 4:30-5:30 p.m.
The opening at the Sports Complex starts with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The all-turf fields will be open to the public and the splash pad will be ready for play. During official activities until 5:30 p.m., there will be complimentary popcorn and beverages.
Gregory-Portland Youth Football will hold an exhibition game at 6:00 p.m.
Parking is available in the Sports Complex parking lot.
Municipal Park
1815 Memorial Parkway
Time: 6:00-8:00 p.m.
After a brief ribbon cutting ceremony, Municipal Park will be open so that residents can experience the new all-turf fields. There will be sports-related activities, including a pitch/hit/run activity and a rock wall for climbing, and the splash pad will be open, too. Complimentary beverages and popcorn, plus apple pies and Cracker Jacks will be served. We’ll be joined by Rusty, the Hooks mascot, and H-E-Buddy, the mascot for HEB.
Parking is available in the Municipal Park parking lot.
There was some damage to the fields during Hurricane Harvey, causing the City of Portland to delay the openings while repairs were made. Hellas Construction and city staff have been working on those repairs to get the parks ready for you. Please know that while most of the repairs have been completed, there may be a few components that we’re still working on. Rest assured that any remaining repairs will be completed quickly—but we didn’t want to wait any longer to unveil the new sports fields and all the amenities now offered at Municipal Park and the Sports Complex.
We hope you’ll join us.
