City extends waiver on some construction-related fees

The City of Portland has extended the period for waiving fence permit fees and associated contractor registration until Oct. 31, 2017. Contractors hired to repair or build fences, as well as those hired for tree and brush removal, are still required to register and apply for the necessary permits. Homeowners receiving help from friends and/or family members are not required to register, but permits are still necessary.

Contractors can register and apply for permits at the Public Works office at 1101 Moore Avenue. Hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Prospective contractors must provide name, address, and a driver’s license.

While the City of Portland requires that all contractors performing any work in the City of Portland be registered with the City, that registration does not constitute an endorsement by the City. Homeowners are still cautioned to perform their own due diligence before hiring a contractor. For tips and information about hiring a contractor, visit Advice About Hiring a Contractor at
