Fitness & Recreational Programs

The Parks and Recreation Department’s purpose is to provide quality recreational programming for all ages, which includes health, wellness, arts, leisure, and education to enhance the quality of life for the citizens in our community. Class participants will not be required to hold a Community Center membership to participate in a class.  Some classes are not included in the membership packages, some classes are an additional cost.

The Portland Community Center is always looking for instructors interested in providing instructional programs at our newly remodeled facility. If you have a special skill or talent and are interested in sharing this skill through an instructional class, then this is the place to get started! With our new large, renovated kitchen this would be an ideal space for cooking classes or demonstrations! Our large multipurpose room and open gym space is perfect for fitness classes! Our Portland Senior Center is a great place for a low impact exercise program or a painting class.  If you are interested in becoming an instructor, please contact Henry Lara – Community Center Manager at 777-4673 or email at
